The visit concluded on Thursday afternoon and the team was able to do a bit of sightseeing before flying out Friday morning. We visited Nan Madol, an abandoned ancient city made of basalt and coral, and a beautiful waterfall.
Nan Madol’s origins are unclear, but locals believe it served as a home to 1,000s on Pohnpei, including royals. The methods of construction are also unclear as it is not known where the basalt came from or how the locals were able to construct such a large and complex structure.
Then, it was time to start the long long journey home on the island hopper…but what an interesting journey! Thank you Federated States of Micronesia and the College of Micronesia!
